wtb esaki silk - RC Groups I have used a lot of silk for models since 1963 and never did find the Japanese silk any better than the Habotai silks with one exception some Esaki color designs were just to cool to NOT use on an airplane China silk ---AKA Habotai silk ----sold by Dharma can be had in colors 8MM ,,or pure white 5MM or 8MM for under $6 per yard
Covering a foam plane? Glass it, iron-on, homebrew, silk?? Silk is much lighter than firerglass, some say stronger Enough silk for plane weighed less than 1 2 oz Silk can conform around 3-D shapes After sanding and spackling, Hold silk against foam, brush on thinned glue Takes a little fussing to keep the silk down until dry Heat gun helps a lot Overlap pieces of silk
1938 Lanzo Bomber 80inch PnP - RC Groups Pretty sure it's an iron fabric, still tight as a drum, silk and dope is a real lost art and utterly amazing when done right! But kinda hard to repair later if need be QUOTE=mlachow;52346967]Are you sure it's iron on covering? Might be real old timer covering
Trex 450 with scale fuselage and 4 blade head - RC Groups I have the Scorpion 2221-12 motor that is 2580kv and uses the stock 13 tooth pinion and 150 tooth main I has been a few years now since I have flown it but recently I spooled it up for some pictures and it is as smooth as silk I run my A109 with a throttle curve and not governed so I know it works in the real world Hope this helps Don
HOB 2x6 glider. - RC Groups If you want a "brand name" motor then I'd suggest an E-Flite Park 450 to go with a 9x6 The climb won't be vertical but it'll be more than respectable And it's a pretty light motor and runs smooth as silk I'd run it on your glider with a 9x6 or 10x5
Flyline Great Lakes Trainer - Complete a Project in 2014 It should be a beauty--highly recommend you cover it with silk and dope Our club, the DC Maxecuters (Col Hurst Bowers was a member), once had a bull session at the Flyline Models factory back in around 1977-- I use the term factory loosely because it was a separate space in a Butler Building in the Virginia suburbs of DC)
Using kite-quality ripstop nylon for covering - RC Groups Nylon, like silk, adds huge strength and stiffness to a frame, but both need you to get a bit physical - although the dope does shrink it a bit, this only takes it from 'taut' to 'drum tight' - it won't get rid of wrinkles You need patience and quite a bit of force to do e g wingtips
Gluing balsa and sealing tissue - RC Groups Again, you don't need any extra stickum products to stick down fabric or tissue covering with dope Two coats 50% thinned clear dope on bare wood, wipe smooth with 200 or finer paper when dry, after each With silk I might go one more sealing coat
Alternatives to Monokote? - RC Groups The problem with doing Silk and Dope now is finding the Dope About the only source I know of any more is mail order froom Sig Last edited by fhhuber506771; Oct 31, 2007 at 08:49 PM
