Lollipop trees and dead branches | UBC Botanical Garden Forums The first time I heard about Burl Ives was when I was in my 1st year at university We had "phonetcis" lessons, listening to and repeating things in a "lab" in booths recorded on tapes (the 70s) like "Kite Kit, Kate Cat, ) and at the end of the lesson, we had a small reward, a traditional song, and I remember him singing "Way haul away, we'll haul away Joe ", and that sounded like an old
The Lollipop Tree at Hillier Gardens | UBC Botanical Garden Forums The tree was sponsored by me for the Cloud Appreciation Society (of which I am a member) in 2016 when these pictures were taken The notice board was offered by the then Director of Hillier Gardens, Wolfgang Bopp
Timing of maple pruning | UBC Botanical Garden Forums Exceptions to this are maples which will bleed or ooze sap unless pruned when in leaf When maples are pruned in late winter or early spring the wounds flow with sap If heavy sap flow occurs, pruning should be delayed until midsummer This flow of sap can lead to disease invasion and weakening of the tree
Dying leaves on Wolf Eyes Kousa dogwood The leaves are washing out with the green part turning paler, sort of a yellow green, with some light browning on the edges Their texture seems to thin also It's occurring on a few, not all branches The tree has been healthy up to now; a lollipop-pruned B B specimen planted about 6 years ago has shaped up nicely
Advice needed about exposed root on nursery maple The thicker anchor roots are still alive and trying to produce more feeder roots, but it's clearly taken a toll on this tree Such stress will drastically impact the cold hardness of this tree going into Winter If the tree was 75% off and you lived in a mild climate I would say go for it But that's not the case and not worth the risk IMO
Acer palmatum Windover - UBC Botanical Garden Forums It was introduced by Brian Upchurch of Highland Creek Nursery This cultivar was discovered growing on his in-laws property in North Carolina, which is called Windover Farm The mother tree is about 20 years old and 12 feet high It still retains its "lollipop" form with a straight trunk and dense, bushy, rounded crown A delightful selection
2024 Virtual Garden Tour - welcome! | Page 6 - UBC Botanical Garden Forums 2 Lollipop asiatic pink white Lily I grow in container and thread through an arbutus (madrone ) native self grown tree (it volunteered) 3 seasonal decor for upcoming July 1 and our family July 4 4 and a silly nature cartoon I relate to in more ways than one (yet despite their fitness, they can reach over and decapitate my Lily plants !)
euonymus | UBC Botanical Garden Forums Part above trunk will assume same appearance as if growing right on the ground unless pruned regularly Trunk will thicken with age Same plant as shrub form, just pruned and trained to have lollipop shape Head might also have been grafted on top of trunk, although suspect probably not with this type of shrub
Plums | Page 5 | UBC Botanical Garden Forums The blossoms outside the art gallery on the West Georgia side are also looking fine Take a look if you are also checking out the Canstruction exhibits mostly at the HSBC Pendulum Gallery (also a couple exhibits at 1075 and 1111 W Georgia lobby, nice one in Four Seasons Hotel by Pacific Centre) - until April 5, date of the Cherry Jam!
