Hello everyone from TrueNAS community, I have been reading up on TrueNAS Scale over the past weeks and while I feel like understand most of the general ideas and concepts, I’d like to have some inputs when building the NAS This is mostly related to the vdev layout and disk size
Noob question: using disks of different sizes : r truenas - Reddit At first look, it appears that Truenas won't let me do that, and instead suggests two vdevs, each with two mirrored drives (which I don't want) The documentation suggests that drives need to be identical, but before I buy more drives I just wanted to check on what's actually workable
Mixing different vdev types in a zpool possible recommended? : r truenas From what I've seen, you can only add vdevs of the same raid type, There wont be an option to change it It is also highly recommended that they be of the same amount of disks, The size of disks and vdev size doesn't matter
Different size drives question | TrueNAS Community Each vDev contains it's own level of redundancy, and use the smallest disk for the size cacluations So, 4x10TB disks in a Mirror would either be 4 way Mirror in a single vDev, (a bit extreme redundancy since you only get 10TB of space)
