8 lbs. Hodgdon 870 powder discovered, what to do with it? While recently cleaning out a relatives estate, I came across 8 bright shiny 1 lb tins of Hodgdon 870 in their original shipping box I don't know what year it was shipped (I'm guessing 30-years ago) but it has been stored in a dry compartment of relatively stable temperature and low humidity ever since
Hodgdon H380 - 24HOURCAMPFIRE H380 was an all around powder back in the day I have tried it in 223, 243, 22 250, 220 Swift and 25 06 It worked well enough in all except I did have to use a mag primer in 25 06 to stop hang fires
Differences between IMR hodgdon powders 4350 and 4831 Actually, I just checked the Hodgdon website again, and it looks like H4350 is back to being slightly slower than IMR H4831 has always been slower than IMR4831, but exactly how much depends on the cartridge and bullet Luckily, we do have Internet access to lots of up-to-the-minute load data these days
What Gun Powders are ACTUALLY manufactured in the United States Ramshot Accurate ball powder comes from PB Clermont in Belgium Hodgdon extruded grades and IMR-8208 XBR from Thales ADI in Mulwala, NSW, Australia Other than 8208 XBR, IMR extruded rifle powders are also made by a General Dynamics Corp owned plant in Valleyfield, Ontario, Canada (Hodgdon owns the IMR brand name and marketing rights IIRC )
Hodgdon Hybrid 100 - Long Range Hunting Forum Have H-100V, H-4350, H-4831 to load in: 243 260 6 5X284 270WSM 325WSM Looking at the load data depending on the bullet used these three powders are almost the same
all this talk about powder temperature sensitivity and h335 The results with IMR4166 pretty much parallel the results I got with it in the 223 (and other cartridges) during considerable testing for an article in the Hodgdon Annual Manual several years ago (The results with H335 are also similar to those from my longer-term tests )
Hodgdon Hybrid 100V - Long Range Hunting Forum I just started using H100V in 257 Roberts and I'm getting just a hair over 3000 fps with 115 gr Nos BT over 45 gr in a 24" barrel That's about 200 fps higher than the next powder in line velocity-wise 46 gr pushes 3100 fps, but was showing some cratered primers Data is from the Hodgdon web site
Hodgdons LongShot powder - 24HOURCAMPFIRE Thanks Doc and Rick That +P 38 load with a 125grainer is a load I noticed off of the Hodgdon site, and from a 4" bbl they claim that bullet will do @1228 fps, which when factored into kinetic E should generate more than 400 foot-pounds at the muzzle! Making that 38Spl load something really efective!
