Tour Companies - Rick Steves Travel Forum I've used Globus, Trafalgar, Cosmos, Taulk, Gate 1, Caravan, Collette, BiblicalIsraelitours, Insight and at least one more that I'm not remembering They've all been good in their own way In some ways you get what you pay for But some of the "budget tours" have been quite good comparing nicely to their more expensive competitors Good luck
Question about different group tours. - Rick Steves Travel Forum Sometimes the tours that include more actually turn out to be cheaper in the long run than the budget tours that make everything optional If you want to see England, Ireland and Scotland in one tour, the Rick Steves tours are out since it's not offered Globus and Cosmos are the same company with Cosmos being the "budget" sister
Cosmos - Rick Steves Travel Forum - There are reviews of Cosmos Tours in Fodor's Europe forums - Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree Forum has reviews of Cosmos Tours - Cosmos Tours has many 'testimonials' about their tours on their own site (I'd take those with a grain of salt because it's unclear whether Cosmos posts all feedback or only the positive comments ) - Epinions com has 52
Finding the Best Tour for an International Solo Traveler For two weeks, with a $3000 budget, you will most likely be limited to the 'big bus' tours - Globus, Cosmos, Trafalgar, etc Small group tours or custom individual tours will be much more expensive The best way to see those places on that kind of budget is to travel solo It's easy to travel in Europe on your own
Anyone heard of Collette for tours. - Rick Steves Travel Forum Also, because many of the tours are locally organized, you are often traveling with friends, which is another big deal for my widowed mom On the plus side: Hotels are excellent and centrally located The hotels were more or less on a par with the accommodations I have had on Smithsonian tours Food is excellent Tour guides are excellent
2026 RSE Tours are here! - Rick Steves Travel Forum Carol, there were a few policy changes for the 2026 tours, and the single supplement is one of them Starting with 2026 tours, a solo traveler will always need to book a private single room — and pay a single supplement — rather than having the option to save money by being paired off with a fellow solo traveler in a shared room
tipping the tour director - Rick Steves Travel Forum You can't go by nationalities as every tour is different I've had tours with mostly Americans where the tipping is terrible On the other hand, I've done all Aussie tours, where the culture doesn't include tipping, and they've been very generous It has more to do with age, quality of the tour (budget vs high end), length of tour, and luck
Smartours travel company shut down and gone! They provided a solid product - the 2 tours I did were just fine 48 on the Turkey tour and 18 on the China They were no different than any on the other companies I’ve used - good guides, fine hotels They had fewer offerings than Gate 1, but I considered them to be pretty much interchangeable
Tipping Tour Guides - One week tour - Rick Steves Travel Forum Retail establishments don't There are some stores, tour companies and TD's but this is not a standard practice My ex worked for Tauck in numerous countries and that was not something they were told to do I worked for Globus Cosmos and Insight and we could not hand out the passenger list to whomever we wanted
