Saving CR3 files to JPEG as default instead of photoshop file I believe the issue is that your CR3 files are 16 bits channel when opened from acr, so saving as a jpeg requires saving as a copy because jpegs don't support 16 bits channel or layers That is also the reason the file retains the cr3 extension in the document tab and asks to be saved again when closing
