Technical - Flathead starter problem | The H. A. M. B. The screws on the Bendix drive need to be tight and the lock tabs bent tightly against the bolts Trying to force it can destroy your Bendix drive and or bend the starter shaft, rendering your new starter useless
Anyone use speedway bendix brakes on their early Ford? The Speedway Bendix backing plates were made by Boling bros but Speedway has their own drums made which I would avoid Spend a little more on MT Boling USA made drums
Technical - FE 153 tooth flywheel and newer starter I question if the correct bendix is on it because it makes quite a bit of whine when starting I know there is a bendix made to fit the late starter which will work with the 153 tooth flywheel, but how can I conform I have it? The ring gear looks great and the pinion on the starter does too, but i dont think it's that old Click to expand

B. - The Jalopy Journal So you need to pull the solenoid off, and then manually pull back on the plunger to force the bendix gear into the flywheel Then use a 1 8" allen wrench and slide the short part of the allen in between the bottom where the bendix and ring gear intersect If the gap is correct the allen wrench should slip in there easily
