To answer my own question: a Bergmann-Bayard M1910 21 The Bergman-Bayard’s muzzle rode a lot lower in the hand by comparison, used detachable magazines (though most were 6-shot, but there were also 10 and some 20-shot ones), and the pistol was…at least somewhat more ergonomic and reasonable in size, for a full-size military sidearm of that general era compared to the C96
