  • Amber in petrified wood? - Fossil ID - The Fossil Forum
Allegedly only seven pieces have been found, but I found a piece of petrified wood that had amber running down the top of it; and around it are scattered drops of it I know it’s amber, but how rare is this?
  • Melting Amber - Questions Answers - The Fossil Forum
Given enough pressure you can even force small amber granules to bond together at temperatures below the softening point There is a modification of the above, whereby single but irregular pieces of heat-softened natural amber are simply squashed into moulds to forcefully make them a more useful shape
  • Scorpion in amber - Member Collections - The Fossil Forum
Got a cool one for you guys: a decent sized scorpion in amber from Burma Probably about 100 million years old The most interesting part to me is the tail sort of curves down 90 degrees perpendicular to the body (you can see it in the last pic side view) and that kind of 3D preservation is rare
  • Amber fossils and authenticity - The Fossil Forum
Hi there! I wanted to ask you for your opinion on this amber fossil Does it seems genuine to you? Would you have any recommendations what to look out for? And how common the fake amber fossils actually are? I am quite new to this, I was an enthusiastic fossil hunter, usually searching in slate d
  • Wisconsin amber? - Fossil ID - The Fossil Forum
Rather than amber, this looks more like botryoidal chalcedony First, this is an interesting specimen, but it is hard to get to a good ID with pictures only I would definitely like to look at it under a microscope to see if there is any evidence of wood cell structure
  • Does this piece of petrified wood have amber on it?
Amber is formed from tree resin, which is from the outer layers of the tree That looks to be inner, which could mean either chalcedony as suggested or a large-ish pocket of sap that has petrified I've seen small runs of fossilized tree sap in pet wood, but it's always small, thin patches, never something thick like that
  • Lizard in amber - The Fossil Forum
Hello, I saw this lizard in amber, apparently from tibet wich im not sure, for sale today and wondered if its real, or just another poor lizard drowned in modern resin Thanks !
  • Sumatran Blue Amber - Member Collections - The Fossil Forum
this just arrived in the mail today and i thought i'd show you guys, especially since sumatran amber is a new dicovery this is a 10 1 gram semi rough piece of Blue amber from sumatra, Indonesia, and is early miocene in age it has a small window polished into it but other than that, it is a roug
  • Is this amber? - Fossil ID - The Fossil Forum
Amber actually flouresces in different colors depending on where it’s from the most common is a milky blue green but there are other colors including red! as for experience I have handled and checked a couple thousand pieces in my life (a friend used to have a rock shop) and have over 300 pieces with inclusions in my personal collection
  • Florida Beach Amber Fossil, Glass or Coral?
Does everyone else think we've got amber from Florida? I've seen some calcite gastropod bivalve infills that are pretty wild and that color and some coral replaced heads that color and I'm wondering what they'd look like under closer inspection and if tumbled around on a beach
