I faced these personally while trying to get folder structure to work with ~500 note files in nested directories Then I switched to dendron and didn't need to worry about them again There are other note taking tools as well such as foam and obsidion (not on vscode) that allow for a better organization than the plain old directory structure

Using VSCode-(Neo)vim is a really good starting point That's how I got started too After you have hated VSCode long enough, you might feel a very strong urge to get rid of it That's when you move to Neovim (You might even have a base config built up for it at this point, which you can use without any friction )

If I recall correctly the only time I briefly tried VSCode from the Microsoft Store, compared to the exe, on a low end Windows 11 machine it felt a little bit snappier but I don't know for sure if there's actually something different
