I don't know about Ublock specifically, but UBlock Origin works When Safari first opens, you have to re-enable it in Safari Preferences as it gives a warning saying the extension was shut down because it slowed web page rendering

I use the free versions of AdGuard and the free User Script AdGuard Extras and it keeps me 100% ad free plus running the free AdGuard Home service on an always on device helps keep ads out of apps like News and Twitch and games

UPDATE: I found out that this is a known problem with uBlock and to some extent uBlock Origin I also discovered that uBlock is a forked version of uBlock Origin that has been stripped down and made lighter (fewer filters and features) Anyway, I tried removing uBlock and installed uBlock Origin instead, and that seems to have done the trick

uBlock Origin is open source so while I don't know what to look for there are those that do and would find anything shady So far Firefox is working well with uBlock Origin to do what Safari 12 did Hopefully Firefox won't follow this $$$$ trend in preventing ad blockers

Ublock Origin Lite is indeed the Manifest V3 replacement It's not as comprehensive as Ublock Origin as you might expect For example Youtube Ads aren't blocked I'm assuming there's some other things too However, it may be good enough for your Mum to browse the web and get certain things out of her way

So, from what I can tell, uBlock is still working on my Chromebook But when they fully remove it, I'm going to be pretty upset and it will make me regret getting a Chromebook Are there any alternatives to uBlock that work for Chrome? Other browsers use the mobile tablet version on the Chromebook and they kinda suck
