One of my two clients: Thunderbird, right now, with one AOL account only, is setup that way, so it keeps the copies of my emails without asking any external parties for permission, and I hope this may still be possible with Proton+Bridge: please, correct me if I am wrong

It may be that when you call, you have to start off with Cancel My Account! If you really want to keep your email address with AOL, and according to post it supports POP and IMAP, I recommend you consider a desktop client like Thunderbird by Mozilla

Same thing happened to me Despite following their guidance and keeping current with my passwords, establishing security questions and answers, and providing an alternate email account for access if I ever did forget my password, they started the loop of asking both Yahoo emails for codes from each other, AFTER I entered the correct passwords
