M1 M2 are more than powerful enough to decode on the CPU, but encoding is slow REALLY SLOW on M1 and M2 Buying any Apple product to use AV1 would be a total waste of money and that is coming from someone that daily driver laptop has been an Apple product for almost 20 years (as well as having an iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch)
