UTSA convinced me with its recent recognition as a Tier 1 institution, its new data science school, its excellent football team (I'm a huge sports fan), its reputation as an up-and-coming university, similar to ASU, not too long ago, and San Antonio is a beautiful city I also like that I’m not too far from Austin, as I am a STEM major

In general, yes UTSA is worth it, as they are generous with scholarships as you continue your time there, and the honors college is relatively easy to get into as you can join AFTER you start school there, in case your hs grades and SAT ACT scores sucked, like mine did :) Since you're scouting out UTSA now, definitely poke around the website
