I looked for a current how-to for UFW and when I did not see one I wanted to add one (important note: UFW is not the firewall UFW just configures your iptables) in most cases I recommend doing the following immediately: sudo ufw default deny sudo ufw enable Then fine tuning can start:

ufw is a full featured interface for the CLI, while firewalld mostly just provides an API and you'd have to use another program on top of that I haven't used firewalld much myself, but ufw does have a lot of experience exposure as it's the recommended tool for Ubuntu-based distros
