I had a trooper back me on an in-progress DV one time and he told me in 13 years as a trooper, that what his first DV in a house Some highway patrols, like California's have morphed into de facto state police agencies (there used to be a separate California state police, but they were small and merged into the CHP years ago)

This is real, he did not try to get the driver fired up The driver was simply having a bad day I agree, there are some unanswered questions about why the 2nd part was filmed But Trooper Murray served a great career with the Maine State Police and handled that situation very well

One bunch of people like the video and the trooper because he just stands there and takes the guy yelling, saying 'sign here - here's the court, here's the fine, $200, etc etc " When the dude flips out and tears up the ticket, he tells him 'you forgot to pick up a piece' and so on

In most cases, police officers (including troopers) are sworn to uphold laws in their jurisdiction There are some exceptions when witnessing a felony-in-progress, when in fresh pursuit, or if the jurisdiction has a border-patrol agreement (some DC cops are cross-sworn in Maryland because of the high crime at the city line)

Not every Trooper works the same schedule, so the best answer is "it depends", but 12's will be what you will work coming out of the Academy But beats the old 2 days on and 2 days off, where you lived at the Barracks !
