Topping engineers' decision on 8 6 dB for Gain=Low for its unbalanced HP out is a weird choice The device should provide a 0 dB gain HP out (in unbalanced low gain mode) Perhaps they were so confident of the noise performance of their new HP amp circuits? We will have to see Amir's measurements

Topping has that written (as A weighted noise) in their official spec You don't need to wait for Amir's measurements And the higher noise level is probably due to higher output level (2 5V instead of 2V, so the DAC noise is amplified) in low gain, which is also written in their official spec
