TV Tropes is an amazing resource, and it's hugely useful to understand TROPES (everything is a trope) People hate it because it's a rabbit-hole that's hard to escape from

When TV Tropes started out, it was kind of a "wild west" In the early days, anyone could create new tropes with no TLP, and even when restrictions were added, there were fewer of them, and they were enforced very loosely This resulted in a lot of "chairsy" tropes that don't really fit with the site's current standards for informativeness

Like the site, TV Tropes was a funny site that you can get a good laugh with just by existing Now it's early 2020s, and the articles are being less funny, the trope names are either removed or renamed, and some articles, especially the articles I frequently visit, became boring

All the tropes was formed by a group that broke from TV Tropes after the second google incident led to TV Tropes scrubbing pretty much all tropes and works that tackled sexual content

TVTropes is a great site but its userbase has bred some of the worst media discourse I've ever seen People will act like tropes are inherently bad and that using a popular trope automatically makes your story "unoriginal"
