After the bending pressure to failure, there was a slight hump in the surface of the plywood So my unscientific opinion is I wouldn't hesitate to screw into the edge of 3 4 inch baltic birch plywood with coarse thread self-tapping screws I will say that if this were a project I cared about, I'd cut dados and use the screws for increased strength
