Legally, muskrats are considered furbearers in GA and are subject to trapping season and regulations However, if they are causing problems in you pond you could probably get permission to trap or shoot them

The other way I anchor beaver traps is on a drowning rig I run #9 wire from the bank into deep water with two stakes I run my swivel through the wire so that the trap will slide easily into the water but binds up when trying to go back up the bank 2016-2017 totals: 39 coyotes, 7 skunks, 3 coon, 627 muskrats, 5 red fox, 7 beaver

As ninjaneer said, back in the 80s when I was trapping, I sold x-large muskrats for $10, $45 or so for fox and mink, $20-$25 for coon, and $8 for possums This was back when the average wages were about $3 an hour and gas cost less than a dollar a gallon, and you could buy a decent used vehicle for $350
