This is why McIntosh was late to the party with Solid State - they took the time required to achieve this vs rush to market This in a market where the competition didn't yet have an amplifier that could compete with a McIntosh - hence the nature of the clinics As for the original question, I'll leave you all to debate the sonic differences

Some even go so far to say that the the 2505 is the most tubelike-sounding SS amp McIntosh ever produced I'm not aware of any "pitfalls" except that unless it had been serviced recently, ie: new output caps, cleaning of controls etc , be prepared for a $300 freshening as these are 34-44 years old now
