Wendell Diller from Magnepan Peter Gunn have bashed heads for a long time apparently Seems Magnepan has finally agreed, the speakers really do sound better with upgraded parts, we'll offer it ourselves Magnepan supports Ritchies upgrade will even install it for one Gotta believe the X series will be Magnepan's main reveal at Axpona in April

I have Magnepan 1 7s 7s I drive them with a 200 watt McIntosh integrated a 70 watt PrimaLuna integrated A friend drives his 1 7s with a 40 watt PrimaLuna integrated and it sounds great It's not so much about wattage, it's current according to Magnepan website PS: if you are looking for concert level DB, Magnepan is NOT your speaker

The need for subs with Maggies is often overblown Their bass has a sharp rolloff but Magnepan doesn't fudge the specs either If they state an F3 of 50Hz, you can be sure that's what you'll get And as for bass volume, even the smaller ones can produce more than a small floorstander IME

After a five month wait, my new Magnepan 1 7s have finally arrived Too early for any serious sonic impressions (especially since all Magnepans have famously long break-in times) but to be honest they sound great so far, and they look fantastic - every bit the gigantic monoliths I expected I'll report as the break in takes place

The Magnepan being magnetic planar have a relatively steady 4 ohm resistance, so that is not hard at all on a GOOD amp Electrostatic or ribbon speakers have a far more reactive impedance load and are harder on amps
