MAWP vs MAOP vs Design Pressure I've been confused by some of the numbers I've been seeing and hope you could clarify the different definitions for me MAWP - This seems to be based on your design code So it's the "don't exceed this" pressure but not the "it's gonna blow" pressure, right? MAWP stands for Maximum Allowable Working Pressure, and is the maximum pressure that the weakest point of a system can handle When a gun, grenade, fog horn, or whatever goes off by his head, the high air pressure in the sound wave exceeds the MAWP of his ear and damages the weakest part, the eardrum

Since the set pressure and MAWP aren’t always the same, the full lift is a % of set pressure not necessarily accumulation pressure In fact, on ASME 1 vessels one of the PSVs can be set at 3% above MAWP which is probably why they require full lift at 3% of set pressure

For example, we have one vessel with a MAWP of 50 PSI @600 with a PRV set at 19 PSI and a rupture disc rated for 12 5 PSI @ 125*F I see ASME code is you can have a a set pressure of 16% above the vessel MAWP if it's a secondary device, which since this has both a PSV and RD, it's a secondary Why would the rupture disc be rated so low?

The MAWP is the max pressure at the top of the vessel This is done with the vessel in its normal position I have never hydro’d a tall column but I assume that you’d factor the static head into the pump discharge reading
