cheapest is usually garmin Jeppesen is almost always more expensive than Garmin Best - that is a personal opinion Both will do what you need to do obviously Some prefer Jeppesen charts (IFR approach plates) because they are used to it and they are generally easier to read I use foreflight charts dont plan on using the unit for that

What I do not understand is why do I need the Garmin Jeppesen? 1 time update $129, subscription $649 That sounds high to me IIRC, my Garmin Nav and obstacle was less than $500 for the year Jeppeson was more expensive As previously recommended, get a one time until you need it for actual, then get an annual subscription

Jeppesen does not code a runway in that case, while often Garmin does Jeppesen does not code most vector SIDs that don't specify a route and usually can't be filed Garmin will code them in their database and if the chart shows fixes or facilities on the chart, they are coded as transitions, even though they are not defined as transitions

The orange cards superceded the silver ones (parts for the old version no longer available), and require and updated Skybound programmer from Jeppesen I don't know about the Garmin programmer, but assume it will work with either the silver or orange cards The Garmin data is a whole lot cheaper than Jeppesen
