And, on a purely subjective note: Skilled and Talented are both terms that I would consider as "above" Intermediate - unless you really do mean to use it as a synonym for halfway or in-between (in which case, you should place it precisely in the middle of your list, which requires a list whose total is odd) - which I hope you don't! –

See my comments above: essentially, I'd say that close is preferable to shut when grading it, as in shut the door halfway and close the door halfway - the former is almost infelicitous, and definitely questionable
