Yes, you absolutely can! Just click Show advanced drive properties and then click the "save" icon next to your device This will save to uncompressed VHD, which, for all purposes and intents, is virtually the same as a img (there's just a 512 bytes footer added, but that will not interfere with using a vhd like a img)

I'm now in the process of updating all our USBs to the new utility, but I've noticed that it takes far longer to image this vhd using Rufus than to manually create the partitions and copy the contents into each from the mounted VHD

Or, if you're using a virtual environment that handles VDH VHDX, you can just use Rufus to write your media to a virtual drive in the first place, and then use that virtual drive for installation There again, the Rufus FAQ can help you

Rufus seems to be calling a vhd file a DD Image, despite my own research indicating that there are differences and that it wouldn't be possible to use dd to write a vhd image to a disk without some prior conversion

There's a non publicized cheat mode in Rufus that may allow you to use an external non USB drive like an external USB one, and that's Ctrl - Alt - F Basically what this does is that it might enable Rufus to list drives that are seen as removable hot-plug by Windows, regardless of whether they are USB based
