Gracie combatives isn’t a jiu jitsu program, it’s as you said a street self defense class While I agree the class ain’t worth much I feel it’s a little disingenuous to say “Gracie jiu jitsu schools suck” because they’re still putting out world champions

Gracie Combatives was invaluable to me as a white belt, so I bought the Blue Belt Stripe 1 courses when they were on sale The production quality is a little less than Gracie Combatives, but the instruction is top-notch

Gracie university is a mcdojo in the sense that blue belts will get crushed by other schools white belts They don't grapple before getting to blue, and they do 30 or 40 katas to get it Starting from blue they sort of get to spar (they were very vague on this and they told me not to roll with the blues)

I train at Gracie Academy Gracie University Headquarters and Have trained in several places before with well know BJJ coaches and Champions I do love the classes at GU and the way they are structured and the teaching methods of Rener and Ryron
- Are Gracie Jiu Jitsu schools well respected within the sport?
I’m not an expert at this but there’s Gracie Barra, Renzo Gracie Academy and affiliates, Royce Gracie affiliated schools, the Gracie Academy affiliated academies, as well as Rickson Gracie affiliated academies and Ralph Gracie affiliated academies As far as I know they all teach self defense You cant paint them all with the same brush
