One of my favorite scenes in Jeremiah Johnson is when he was struggling to get a fire going with flint and steel Just when he thinks he has it, the snow falls on his fire lay and snuffs it out When I think about what our forefathers went through, it makes me glad that I am an amateur experamental archeologists rather than someone who stakes

It occurs in areas of limestone in the Flint River and other areas of Georgia It's yellow to brown in color, very brittle, and has a glossy luster The nodules and pieces are usually covered in a white coating But that seems to be the case with a lot of chert, especially nodules Especially the nodules found on the Flint River

The flint needs to be sharp It must be able to dig into the surface of the striker The flint will loose its edge quickly and you'll have to re-knap a new sharp edge Here are some pictures of a dull edge and the spark shower

you can catch shoalbass and redbreast and other fish I like to throw a 1 8 white roostertail ,or a small bitsy minner crankbait on my ultralight or use crickets or a hellgramite crankbait, baby wedge spinnerbait,topwater spook or skeeterpop,or plasstic worm on a bigger bass rod You should be able to catch some fish and see plenty of gar swimming around The river is down some since we aint had
