How can I deploy the solution so my web part is only available in a certain web application The idea is that I want to be using the same web parts in the different web applications, but they have minor changes for each different web application So I want to deploy version 1 1 to web application A and deploy version 1 2 to web application B

I guess you are using Add-SPSolution and Install-SPSolution to upload and install the WSP package Add-SPSolution will move your solution to SP Admin database and Install SP-Solution will add create time job to push all feature files to 14 15 hive, DLL's to GAC, Web Config changes etc to the Front end servers where you have "SP Web Application service" running

Switch the WSP mode to ApplicationServer (can be done only if it contains only the Web app feature you're mentioning) Activate the Web app feature from PowerhShell, while logged on the Web Front End (and hope the feature event receiver is well-coded, i e does not assume the ER is loaded in a Web context!)

Short answer: a WSP cannot be deployed on a given Web app First of all, a WSP can contain different artefacts: _layousts files (application pages, JavaScript, CSS, images ): those "resources" are by definition available to all the SharePoint farm Features; Features that embed a Web part or anything else that requires a web config modification

solution-name wsp web-application-name application-pool-name I've tried using Get-SPSolution, but output doesn't contain web-app name Get-SPWebApplication doesn't give the list of wsp for each web-app listed stsadm -o enumsolutions seems to contain info I need, but don't know how to change output format to something similar mentioned above
