I use a 1:1:1 mix of potting soil, small grade fir bark, and perlite for most my aroids And use a 1:1 mix of cactus potting soil and perlite for the succulents and palms (including aloe) This works for me in zone 6b, 55% humidity If your environment is fairly humid, more perlite If dry, add a small amount of sphagnum moss
