- Windows 2012 R2 Deduplication Problems, 0 B SavedSpace and 0 OptimizedFiles
On a Windows 2012 R2 server, enable Deduplication on a new 20 TB D: physical volume This volume will become a target for Veeam Backup and Replication backups Problem:
- Widows Search not working with Data Deduplication?
We reported the indexing deduplication problem to Microsoft at the end of February They got back to us confirming that it is a known problem related to design The windows search service is not able to index deduplicated data The following steps can be used as a workaround to get all data indexed: 1 Deactivate deduplication (Server Manager)
- Deduplication: Redirection table is too small
Starting deep garbage collection on data containers Deep garbage collection initialization has started Running the deduplication garbage collection job
- Deduplication - Server 2012 R2 - disk relocation
Tbh, I didn't read the documentation for Deduplication feature in 2012 R2 version of the Server OS, but my colleague did, and came up with a hypothetical quetion
- Cannot enable deduplication job for -UsageType Backup
Enable-DedupVolume : Cannot process argument transformation on parameter 'UsageType' Cannot convert value "Backup" to type"Microsoft PowerShell Cmdletization GeneratedTypes DedupVolume UsageType" Error: "Unable to match the identifier name Backup to a valid enumerator name Specify one of the following enumerator names and try again: Default, HyperV"At line:1 char:44+ Enable-DedupVolume
- Cannot access any files after rebuilding OS even after taking ownership . . .
As above I have built the server with Server 8 Beta and enabled deduplication, I have not actually added any volumes for deduplication but I am now able to copy files off the drives???
- Drive performance with hyper-v cluster
Could this be as a result of fragmentation, deduplication, or the upgrade process? So I then created some new small (only 20-30GB in size) VHDX files for both these VM's, creating one on each of the drive arrays to test with With the upgraded 2016 server I was now seeing speeds of 5 75GB s write and the same for read
- Server 2012 Host, 2012 R2 VM, backup very slow
After switching off deduplication for the volume and then re-expanding all the files, the backup speed has almost doubled! Clearly deduplication is causing an issue, I'm not sure why, the processor is not being overloaded, maybe its hitting the disk too hard having to find all the parts of each and every file while backing up
