This is something that Calgon don't say about their testing - are they saying washing machines live longer with Calgon if you wash at 90C, 60C, 40C or 30C To be fair Which aren't clear on this either, but if Calgon are testing at 90C and which at 30C, then its entirely possible both are right!

In with all the paperwork and user manual was a Calgon leaflet with a water tester, it came out as me being in a hard water area and suggested I use Calgon in every wash but it's £5 for about 1 or 2 weeks worth depending on how many washes you do a day My household does 2 a day, so one box of Calgon will last a week, that's quite expensive

Obviously, something like Calgon will only protect your W M, if anything I got sick of endlessly having to clean my bathroom suite, kitchen taps and mirrors with vinegar so had a water softener fitted Yes, not very MSE, but I now just give the shower walls and screen a quick wipe after my shower and they look like new Well worth the cost, IMHO

Calgon tablets are around 20p each - had we bothered to put Calgon in it we'd have spent £240 supposedly to prolong the life of a machine which should do over 10 years If it works, it must have a pretty marginal effect! (The only repair cost on the machine was £15 for some new motor brushes which I fitted myself about 18 months ago!)

Do you use Calgon in your washing machine or does it not seem very money saving to you? And maybe someone has a plumber for a husband who can verify that Calgon really does prolong the life of a WM
