If I get 4 years of coverage automatically (1 yr Apple, 1 year Costco, 2 years Costco VISA), why buy AppleCare? I always get AppleCare plus monthly with theft loss until I get rid of the phone then I can cancel The coverage is the same However, if you drop your phone you’ll just have to deal with not having one for quite a while unless you live close to an Apple Store to exchange it But I would always use a case

If you upgrade every year, monthly AppleCare is cheaper*, and if you keep your phone longer than two years, paying monthly is the only way to extend your coverage AFAIK *This doesn’t account for increased resale value if your device has AppleCare, but in my experience having active AppleCare+ doesn’t impact device resale value much if at all!
