  • apiary design with SHB in mind | Beesource Beekeeping Forums
There was a thread here last month somebody down in Florida said their SHB problem dropped about 90% in the apiary that they concreted Best guess is the larvae can cross concrete, but they're exposed to the sun and predators so it is deadly I suspect they could get down thru just gravel, but the weedblock ought to help considerably
  • Arrangement of hives in an apiary. . . - Beesource Beekeeping Forums
The apiary site has already been chosen, so my question has more to do with positioning hives within the apiary Growth is absolutely a factor Growth is absolutely a factor I have at present some twenty hives, and have been thus far keeping them in a line, at a distance something less than has been recommended here
  • Community Apiary Question | Beesource Beekeeping Forums
They have an urban apiary with 15-20 members managing 30 hives in a vacant lot Appears that keys are relations with neighbors, management of all of the hives in the apiary (so you don't get abundance of swarms or diseases passed from one to another), and security of the site (you need access for lots of folks, but not the wrong folks)
  • How long to wait before relocating new swarm in swarm. . .
If your apiary is far away (More than 8 miles I recall) it doesn't matter because they will not fly that far back to the trap site) I just pointed out in another thread recently that the moving 3 feet per day from the trap to the apiary is a real pain
  • Florida Beekeeper Registration | Beesource Beekeeping Forums
Apiary Inspection is definitely not a revenue generator for Florida Niche' pollinators, new beekeepers, take about 3 hours each which works out to about $3 33 an hour We have 9 inspectors and 3 supervisors that also inspect
