Crossing the jumper cables usually damages the alternator, and that 2G is already known to be a dangerous design It won't affect how the engine runs (or not), but I suggest you disconnect its wiring, and start reading up how easy it is to swap in a '93-96 3G

Either way, you SHOULD convert to a 3G alternator instead of the 2G that came on both of those It's a very minor wiring mod, but it's worth it, especially if you install a 130A version Follow the links in this caption for more info:

I think what I will do is save up for the KB and get that one just because its 2G's less and is only about 20hp less then the Whipple also Either way is one of my top mods to do to this truck 2005 Loaded F150 FX4

The '87-early'88 4 9L injector blower wasn't needed, and should be ripped out before it sets the truck on fire The 2G alternator - fire hazard The '93-02 red SCDS was built wrong, and should be changed to the black revision The distributor-mounted ICM was made wrong, and needs either replacement, or relocation

'87-91 use a 2G alternator with an internal VR Upgrading to the 3G 130A is easy and highly recommended 2Gs have a habit of catching fire, and they were never that good to begin with
