A great example is “gaggle,” which was invented to refer to both geese and women (source) in reference to their chattering (I’m not sure whether there is any historical record of the names women invented for collections of men around the same time!) Fast-forward 600 years, and now “ gaggle just means “flock” (especially of geese)
