The condition is called “senile purpura” and is thin skin from aging and sun damage One dermatologist prescribed Tretinoin retinol cream, which helped for a while, but no longer works I keep reading that it’s a common problem, but even in large groups of senior citizens, I’ve never met anyone with this problem

Today, in the shower I scratched my thighs lightly and when I was getting dressed a few minutes later, I noticed these purple blotches (see pic) showed up It isn’t itchy or irritating I’ve had this happen a few times before It doesn’t always show up after scratching either Any idea what that might be? I have the same issue and people constantly ask me if I’m on blood thinners My dermatologist suggested bruise creams but said just thin skin due to aging ( I’m 76) I attribute some to genetics as my father’s arms looked like mine and recent exacerbation due to prednisone I’m taking for a recently diagnosed auto immune disease

There seems to be some evidence that photobiomodulation - heating the skin via infra red light - has some benefits for stimulating nerve re growth There are lots of devices available on Amazon as well as lots of seemingly expensive treatments provided by chiropractors I would be interested to know of any personal experience with such devices and any possible recommendations

It depends what you mean by recover I had a problem with thin skin in some places while I was on prednisone The patches of thin skin were translucent and very sensitive to the sun After I got off prednisone, the patches of thin skin aren't as thin and translucent anymore The patches aren't sensitive to the sun but they don't tan like the rest of my skin The patches of thin skin are now
