The payoff might or might not be worth the time depending on the player but I’d go for CIV VI, especially if I’m just testing the waters with the genre CIV V might also seem daunting at first with all the barrage of information you get see as you play but if you pay attention, the game won’t let a turn end if you missed something

You already have gamepass Play Crusader Kings, if you dont' like it buy civ IMO the Civ series isn't what it used to be though and it's boring af now 5 is for sure better than 6

I was a Civ V diehard, but after a few years and a couple of expansions, I play Civ VI exclusively now The districts, governors, loyalty, climate change mechanics, new game modes etc , as well as the other small improvements have made it the better game IMO The other games you mentioned are fun, too, but as you mentioned, they are more open
