Whenever my computer restarts, due to patching, VSCode will open with a specific set of files that are mostly versions from over year ago I close them open up the current ones and move on Once I close the "bad" files and reopen VSCode I get a clean slate

Open commandline (on windows for example enter "cmd" in search) and then try the following one by one: Test with each one, if it solves your problem and files open fast again If that's the case, look for related issues at Google to get a final fix! Also try to uninstall and install VSCode again

If VS Code happens to crash, a backup restore will occur the next time the folder is opened On Windows, the backup folder is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\Backups
