  • Is there a standard height and depth for stairs?
Is there a standard (or a standard range for) the height and depth of each step in a flight of stairs? If your answer refers to your building code, please say where you live
  • Step down into livingroom. Too tall? split in two?
    result In the United States, the step height standard should be between 7 or 7 ¾ inches at the most, and no less than 4 inches < 8" = 1 step 8" - 12" = 2 steps 12" - 16" = 2 or 3 steps 16" - 20" = 3 or 4 steps
  • Minimum height of step between two interior rooms
I'm trying to figure out the minimum safe (and code compliant) height of an interior step between a kitchen and mudroom I'm pretty sure 7 3 4" is roughly the max height but is there a minimum height specified?
  • Do stairs need to be the same height after landing?
Changing step height in the middle of a staircase is going to be strange, and could potentially be a tripping hazard Your body will get used to the step height in the first part of the stairs, and will likely fumble on the second section if the step height changes by too much
  • Building a one or two step staircase in garage of awkward total rise
I can find a lot of information on the internet about building stringers, but this height is a bit awkward 8 25" is a bit beyond code requirements of approximately 7 75" maximum riser height However, doing two steps would require me to have a riser height of 5 2 3" which is way below the ideal 7 5"
  • What is code for stair treads and risers in Georgia
It looks like Georgia revises its building code frequently I didn't find a revision for 2005, but the 2006 edition was OCR scanned and published here In section 1009 3, there is this: 1009 3 Stair treads and risers Stair riser heights shall be 7 inches (178 mm) maximum and 4 inches (102 mm) minimum Stair tread depths shall be 11 inches (279 mm) minimum The riser height shall be measured
  • Maximum rise on outdoor steps - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
Individual risers must have a height no greater than 7 3 4 inches and a depth of at least 10 inches Apparently "stairs are stairs" and to be properly considered as such they should follow the regulations whether inside or out We have changed direction to using those standards for our external staircase We are working on how to handle railings
  • Can the bottom stair have a different height than the rest in GA?
I think it is nationwide, the difference can only be 3 8" from the shortest riser to the tallest That means you can have risers that are 7" and 7 3 8" in a set of steps, but you can't go to 7 3 4" thinking it is only 3 8" difference than the one next to it I does not matter if it is the last one or the first one, or any in between
