If you ship to the US Canadian tracking numbers can usually be looked up on the USPS site and the delivery information will be there The delivery info may or may not get fed back to the Canada Post site So in the case of an item going to the UK try and look up the tracking number on the Royal Mail site

Just like I ordered a shirt off a website a couple weeks ago and I got an email with Canada Post tracking the next day when it shipped but it didn't start tracking on the Canada Post site until a week later when the shirt finally made it the Canadian gateway

It can take up to 24 hours for updates to show If I were to order something on Amazon and let's say delivery is on Friday At first it will say by 10pm Friday Sometime on Thursday or even 4-5am Friday it will update to let's say 8am to 2pm If there is a delay then updated time 2pm to 5pm Tadaaa

The tracking number on a recent order off Amazon wouldn't work either even though it said it was being delivered by Canada Post, once up and running (24ish hrs) details were very vague
