Bront I'm sure you're a great guy but a really poor historian:rofl: Synthetic oils came into vogue in the 72-74 time frame and were widely available by 78 Understanding synthetics is about understanding base stocks - the word synthetic here simply means not from a crude oil base, even though the components of a synthetic can come from crude

I use Motul Semi Synthetic, I know for a fact that synthetic oils are better specially if you run the motors at high RPM, the low viscosity oils where developed for tighter tolerance engines to obtain faster lubrication

Make sure you go over the service records and maintenance info on oil and filter changes, services repairs done especially major engine repair and if exhaust manifolds were serviced or changed out In any event is you are interested in a boat with 8 1L engines make sure a good engine tec surveyor does a complete engine survey

if you use a synthetic 2 cycle oil you dont have to worry about decarbing your outboard as synthetic oil doesnt form carbons horseradish 12-22-2003 12:45 PM How do you "decarb" your 2 stroke?? My LAST post on this subject because I don't want to go out of 2003 and start 2004 on the wrong foot and let someone spoil their motor

Update: doing the yearly oil change, the filters and impellers for both engines and generator 1080$ Oil from tractor supply 560$ oil really hasnt gone up much still 27$ a gallon the filter package has gone up about 100$ since 2022 Are you running synthetic blend oil? I’m using regular Rotella T4 in mine but they’re older mechanicals
